The Statue of Liberty and Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Statue of Liberty faces the Purple Heart: The most prominent heart in American culture for military service. Our Lady Guadalupe faces the Sacred Heart of Jesus: The most Venerable heart in Mexican culture. The mixing of the two woman show the religious, cultural, and secular values that both compliment and contradict each other in our borderland.
