Queen of Hearts (limited prints)
Painting represents the duality of our Mexican and American Border Culture. I took the Queen of Hearts playing card and incorporated the two most important women in both cultures intertwined. The Statue of Liberty and Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Statue of Liberty faces the Purple Heart: The most prominent heart in American culture for military service. Our Lady Guadalupe faces the Sacred Heart of Jesus: The most Venerable heart in Mexican culture. The mixing of the two woman show the religious, cultural, and secular values that both compliment and contradict each other in our borderland.
